Earned Wage Access: A Flexible Benefit That Helps Manage Wage Garnishment and Protects Against Insolvency

Every month, thousands of people struggle to cover an unexpected expense – and if they're facing wage garnishment, it can literally come down to days. Earned Wage Access gives them room to act sooner, without further penalties, stress, and in compliance with the law. Why does this particular form of flexibility make sense? Read how it helps people and companies in practice.

Although wage garnishment cases in the Czech Republic have been declining for several years, they still affect more than half a million people. At the start of 2025, the Czech Chamber of Executors recorded approximately 607,000 debtors and 3.2 million enforcement proceedings, which is about eight percent of the adult population. Taking debtors' families into account, wage garnishment affects at least 1.5 million people.

Behind every number is a real story. The impact of this situation also carries over into the workplace – higher absenteeism, turnover, and a greater burden on HR departments and payroll.

Flexibility within limits

The Earned Wage Access benefit lets employees withdraw part of their already earned wages before the standard payday. It's not a loan, just an advance that's automatically settled at the next payday. At Advanto, that means a few clicks in the app, and the money arrives in the account within minutes.

Instant access to part of their earned money can also be made available to employees subject to wage garnishment, up to a maximum of 50% of the non-seizable minimum. This doesn't put the legally mandated deductions at risk, while still leaving the person room for urgent expenses.

For employees who have already entered insolvency proceedings, the situation is stricter – the law sets out a precisely defined repayment schedule to creditors. That's why Advanto doesn't automatically make the benefit available to these employees.

Fast help can change the whole story

A wage advance can help bridge an unexpected expense that needs to be paid immediately. A payment order has a due date of just 15 days – if you don't pay it on time, you fall into wage garnishment and the costs immediately increase by roughly CZK 7,000,“ says Radek Hábl, founder of the Institute for the Prevention and Resolution of Over-Indebtedness.

In practice, this means an employee subject to wage garnishment can safely draw on part of their wages before payday, pay a court fee or an outstanding energy bill, and avoid sliding into further penalties. The company doesn't have to review every request for an advance manually – the limit in the app simply can't be exceeded.

Earned Wage Access reduces wage garnishment

Companies offering the Advanto benefit report that no new wage garnishment cases have appeared since introducing it. Over the long term, they report a decline in the number of garnishment cases. For example, LINET, a manufacturer of hospital beds with more than 1,000 employees, introduced Earned Wage Access as part of its internal People Care program. In under two years, the share of employees with wage garnishment or in insolvency fell from 4.3% to 2.8%. HR Director Lucie Vostatková sees the benefit precisely in the fact that people have money available before the problem deepens, while also gaining access to debt counseling directly in the app.

Help that's priceless

  • Instant relief, no new debt. It's not a loan, so no interest accrues. Only part of the pay cycle shifts.

  • Less shame, more control. The employee requests the advance anonymously in the app, without having to explain their personal situation to their supervisor.

  • Prevents a debt spiral. A fast advance can prevent late-payment penalties, overdraft fees, or payday loans.

  • Peace of mind. When someone knows they have a reserve for unexpected expenses, anxiety drops and focus at work improves.

The benefit also includes the Advanto Academy, focused on education through articles and quizzes on personal and family finance. People get their money on time and, at the same time, learn to plan their budget better. The result is lower sick leave, lower turnover, and better employer branding – employees appreciate that the company also cares about their financial health.
